CHRIST ABSORBED --- COMPASSIONATE --- AUTHENTIC
A little history...
For over a hundred years the Wurzbach Ranch has been bringing physical life to the open spaces west of San Antonio, Texas. Today, these historic buildings and the surrounding land are bringing a new kind of life to the thousands of families that are moving into the area.
In 1995, Chuck and Nancy Holliman bought Wurzbach and renamed it Redbird Ranch. Along with their children, they dedicated the structures and the land to Christ, praying that it would forever be used for His glory and purposes. For the last decade, Redbird has been an oasis for family, friends, missionaries, and travelers who have found rest and reflection in warm hospitality and the land that stretched for miles in every direction.
Today Redbird Ranch stands directly in the path of the rapidly expanding west corridor of San Antonio—the fastest growing residential area in the nation. As developers began approaching the Hollimons, they knew the ranch would eventually be sold. David Walker (a close friend and pastor of Alamo City Christian Fellowship) suggested that a portion of the property should be set aside for a church—a place of continued refuge and growth for the masses that would soon be calling the lands surrounding the ranch their home.
Two years later, Rob and Becki Graham were at Redbird taking a break from their work at Rimrock Church in South Dakota. As they drove through the area, their eyes were opened to the coming spiritual needs of the future community. Thousands of homes were already being built on surrounding properties; six thousand families would soon be living on Redbird Ranch alone… and hardly a church in sight. It was the birth of a new vision for Rob—a vision that grew in his heart over several months.
Meanwhile, the Hollimons had been praying about what to do with the historic buildings and land surrounding them. When they met with Rob and Becki, God’s plan began to quickly unfold. In November of 2006, Chuck Hollimon, David Walker, Jessie Hellems (a Christian businessman from San Antonio), and Rob Graham signed the official documents that created Red Bird Community Church as a legal entity. In January of 2007, the Hollimons donated the historic buildings and 20 acres to the church. The Grahams moved onto the ranch, and Redbird Church began to fulfill its vision:
“To gather and grow
a band of Christ-followers
who live and communicate
the Gospel of God’s grace
in a land of law and legalism.”
The rest of the history has yet to be written. Perhaps you will be a part of it?
Can you see the cross in this flag?
Can you see God at work through the people of Redbird Community Church?
